Help Design the Chapter’s Conservation Mission
The AMC NY-NoJ Chapter Conservation Committee is seeking member input to help guide our advocacy priorities and activities for the coming year. This brief survey asks about the environmental issues you care most about, the regions and communities where you’d like the chapter conservation committee to focus its efforts, and the types of advocacy and volunteer opportunities that interest you. Your feedback will help us identify priorities, develop meaningful opportunities for engagement, and build a stronger chapter voice for conservation and outdoor recreation.
Leader Launch Day Sunday, Nov 8th Fort Tryon Park
Here’s a fast-track opportunity to becoming an AMC leader for the New York-No. Jersey Chapter: learn the fundamentals of leading AMC activities in one day with hands-on role-playing scenarios. Completing Leader Launch Day will count as two co-leads, and may qualify someone as an official AMC hike leader, subject to the approval of the activity committee chair and the chapter Leadership Committee chair. Members must complete Outdoor Leader Fundamentals before the day of the event, but you can register asap.
Sat., Nov. 14th Inwood Park Easy Stroll
Explore the beauty of this surprisingly sylvan park in the Upper Manhattan. We’ll walk at a leisurely pace on pavement and trails for about 5 miles with minor elevation gain, stopping at points of interest. Wear sturdy walking shoes and weather appropriate clothes. Bring 1 liter of water and lunch/snacks. And, then get to the chapter’s Annual Dinner!
Calling all Skiers to an Open Planning Meeting Wed., Nov. 18th 8:00 PM by Zoom
We have several ski trips on the schedule already, but we’d like to do more. Register for the Zoom meeting and join the fun as we discuss downhill, back-country, and cross-country ski opportunities.
Bronx Zoo Family Fun Day Sunday, Dec. 6th 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Come join us for a morning at the Bronx Zoo led by AMC and the Zoo Education Staff! Explore zoo exhibits, learn about wildlife conservation and meet an animal ambassador up close! No cost to register; includes education programs and limited admission to zoo exhibits.

The Conservation Committee promotes conservation efforts in New York and New Jersey, supports AMC’s club-wide conservation efforts, and encourages local advocacy such as writing to elected officials and attending public meetings.
