Hackensack River 1998 Clean-Up Photos
Lisa Smith of United Water helped us get access to company property for our second annual Hackensack River cleanup on Sunday, May 17th. This year we had 12 participants in 6 canoes. Our group, which ranged in age from 10 to 83, paddled and cleaned up the Hackensack from just below the De Forrest dam to Western Highway. (Photos by Tom Trevor, one of the trip leaders.)

Kerry O'Brien, Co-Leader of this clean up, precariously balances his two big truck tires.
Some of the logs across the river had to be sawed out so that we could get through, and Rich deFiebre gets the job.

Karen Lizenberg and Rich get their share of tires too...
Mike Barnish & Barb Fuchs share a laugh over the latest trash that they have for the dumpster.
Tanya McCabe, Ed Crowley & Ed's son Evan search for debris allong the river bank.
Our effort cleared the
river of the following items:

- 10 garbage bags of toys, balls, Styrofoam cups, assorted plastic containers and glass and plastic
bottles
- 4 truck tires
- 2 box conveyers for unloading trucks
- 18" x 18" section of plastic pipe
- A TV set
- Ceramic bird bath base
- A 16" fan blade
In addition, Karen Lizenberg rescued and adopted a teddy bear and protected it with a hard hat she also salvaged from the river.
